Karl Stone

Phoenix, AZ - United States

Long before desktop computers, Adobe Photoshop, and other tools for photographic enhancements Karl Stone used pens, pencils, crayons, razors, water, and anything else that could help him unlock the mystery that was hidden in each of his photographic images. The result is the Karl Stone Art Collection. My personal appreciation of Karl's art is reflected in the poetry I wrote for some of his prints located in The Artist and The Poet Gallery. In Karl's behalf and mine, welcome to the Karl Stone Art Collection. Hope you enjoy! Umar Sharif (Alufa - The Poet) Karl Stone's authorized online representative. Media Comments about Karl Stone's Art:

The Media all ask ... how do you describe this work ... what medium is it ... is this a painting? 'All images start from a photograph,' replies Stone, 'from that point on, I use whatever is necessary to get the job done. What's important to me is what the image says.' The work of Karl Stone is identified by a distinctive style of Visual Poetry. Each image is unique, intellectual, arresting and emotionally charged. 'Karl Stone, (is) the man who paints with a camera.' Bob Richards, Dallas Times Herald. These are 'Intellectual and emotionally complex images, unusual and arresting,' Kismet Kechejian, Publisher. 'What Media is this? They look like paintings,' Dori O'Neal, The Tri-City Herald.
